Local groups and hobby associations are offering a sense of community, cultural exchange, and opportunities for personal growth. Beyond academics, these gatherings provide a platform for shared interests, relaxation, and stress relief. Engaging in such activities not only fosters friendships but also helps you navigate the challenges of living in a foreign country, creating a supportive network that enriches your overall study abroad experience. Many universities allow international students to participate in degree-related societies, choirs, sports teams, and dance groups (folk dance, why not?). It’s a terrific way to meet people in the area. However, if you are not keen on the idea of joining your hosting university club or you are on mobility for traineeship and this is not even an option, here are two student organizations that could be interesting for you.

Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is more than a student network; it’s a global community dedicated to enriching the experiences of international students on their Erasmus journey. Through a variety of events and initiatives, ESN fosters friendships, promotes cultural exchange, and eases the transition into new environments. Join ESN to erase borders, celebrate diversity, and make lasting memories with a supportive network that transcends geographical boundaries.

The European Students’ Union (ESU) is a dynamic organisation advocating for the rights and interests of students across Europe. Comprising national student unions, ESU works to shape educational policies, promote inclusivity, and ensure the student voice is heard in higher education discussions. Through campaigns and collaborations, ESU actively contributes to creating a supportive environment, emphasising values such as equity, accessibility, and quality education across European universities.
